That's a hard one as the surface looks a little washed out. Its strike is about as good as it gets for these, though. I agree with MS62, for the nicks on it; maybe, MS63.

These are struck-up very weak, you guys, in the tops of the feathers and the hairs beneath the headband. I'm just saying, if they call this MS, that's why.

    Good looking IHC.
Interesting that none of our experts guessed a details grade.

One can't always see everything in a pic , only in hand . Even then in some cases it's a judgement call . Plus I'm no grading "expert". ;)

Yes. Photos leave a lot to be desired for grades. I bet almost no one could say where it was smoothed and smoothing is very invasive.

Didn't see that coming. Fun coin.

The reason to "smooth" and exactly what is it?

Smoothing is moving metal around on the field of the coin to cover up some sort of damage. Perhaps a gouge or some type of damage to the edge.

Hmm. Perhaps between the second and third feathers in the headdress?

Even with the "smoothing", there are still many indentations on the coin which is a bit unusual for an AU coin. Perhaps it was dropped and stepped on by a horse at the local livery stable back in 1889.
