1888 Gold Dollar Guess The Grade

    This coin sits in an older NGC holder. What grade do you think was assigned to this coin?

    I guess at least a solid MS 65, nice color:p

    I think it depends on what they call her cheek. Wear or cabinet friction. I would guess 64.

    Btw Matt, I do appreciate these threads you post. I am not an expert in this series, but enjoy your "guess the grades". I am not sure I could do it, since inevitably some are low. You seem to take all of the guesses in stride. Cool for you man.

    I don't mind... It actually helps me gauge how accurately my pictures portray the coin as this is always important for me to make the pictures reflect the coin as closely as possible to in hand.

    Plus... It's fun.

    It's fun, but I wonder how many people actually know how to grade this series? I would've guessed MS65 based on what I've seen previously. This looks way nicer than a typical 64 or 58 that I've seen. I haven't personally looked at enough 66's to know to differentiate them well from a 65.

    Absolutely a beautiful coin in any case!
