i have this coin in my collection, one of my faves and i think it may be rarer than a normal one Take a look at the device separating the date, is it or is it not pointing to a tooth on the rim? what do u guys think?
Looks like a small cud caused by a die crack. But I don't like the way Victoria's neck dissappears around the earing, I think its a cast fake. (Dang, I'm just shooting everything down today, aren't I?)
That alone wouldn't change my opinion, but an examination of the piece in-hand would help. But looking at it again, the rest of the details are sharp and I may have been a bit rash. (its been a long day!). Of course, its always possibly that it was counterfeited for circulation and not to fool collectors, you never know. Don't worry, its not a particularly valuable piece - i'd have bought it myself.
Ok i am not saying i am an epert but i just looked up a couple on ebay and this one on this site: See that very same dot, this time is over the gap between the teeth?
I may have got this coin wrong It is either a 1887 Shilling, or an 1887 Sixpence, the type that was withdrawn as it looked similar to the half sovereign
