Is this the 1887/6 Morgan? And does coin also have die clash as well as a strike through on the letter R in Liberty and not a die chip? So many coin marks and I am really confused and imagining things after looking at it so long?...lol Was wondering if it has a slight out of collar strike also. Thanks for any help.
Yeah, had it deep in floor safe almost 40 years. My grandfather gave about $300 to my mother (his daughter) on wedding day and I use to play with them when I was a kid. She and my dad married in 1948 and where coin came from before that I have no clue. I was just going over them and came across this one. The lips also seem to be doubled and thought the mark through the letter R was a die chip but IDK. The coin itself looks as if not only the date was reworked. Letter C in America has excess metal flow and wreath has what appears to be fanthom leaves. I haven't looked at these coins for nearly 40 years since my mother gave them to me as a gift.

I don't see a 7 over 6, but there may be the remnants of a clash on the reverse. It looks like there is a vertical mark from the base of the "n" of IGWT to the edge of the eagle's wing. It comes from Liberty's neckline, but if there is no letter transfer on the obverse, it doesn't mean much. It just looks like a well-circulated coin to me. ~ Chris
It is neither the 7/6 or the donkey tail varieties. The date position is wrong to be the over-date and the position of the divot under the D is wrong for the donkey tail. As Chris mentioned it is a clashed die and based on the date position and the neck line clash from the eagles' right wing to the n VAM1i is a possibility.
Based upon your photographs, I'd have to say it just looks to me like a well circulated Morgan, nothing else.
The cold sore on Morgan's lip looks like a die mark to me but I would wait for more experienced opinions. I'm a Morgan guy and keep all of mine no matter what they look like. Good luck and be safe "Keep them all."
