1886-S Morgan UNC Details? Too much harsh cleaning? What's your opinion. What service would you send it into? I know that even at UNC details, it's worth around 200+ to the right buyer. Thanks in advance! Spencer
I'm not so sure it has been harshly cleaned. Dipped I would say, probably to remove some discoloration, but not over-dipped based on those pics. But the coin is not unc, it's AU. The light scratches on the coin I believe are from wear.
Thanks GDJMSP. I appreciate you always chiming in when nobody else does, I highly value your opinion based on all your posts here. Cheers
I'm not 100% convinced it has been cleaned...but it looks like it might have been. It's hard to tell in the photos if the scratches are from cleaning or from circulation or both. I do agree the coin has circulated. The 1886-S is normally a fully struck coin and this coin is certainly missing some detail. So, I'm going to say it's an AU and I'd bet it has been cleaned.
I appreciate the kind words, but the number of my posts, the number of anybody's posts, is meaningless. So never make a judgement about anyone based on the number of their posts. It is only the content of the posts that matters. And based on that, you probably shouldn't pay much attention to mine for there are whole lot of people who seem to disagree with me a whole lot of the time
I agree. With GDJMSP. About the Morgan being AU, not MS. And probably dipped, but not damaged. Hard to judge the luster from here. I chuckled when you asked "Too much harsh cleaning?" Like there's such a thing as "just the right amount of harsh cleaning". Lance.
GDJMSP - I wasn't looking at the number of posts you had, just had noticed you typically research what you're talking about and have a lot of experience with the Morgan dollar. I respect the contents of your posts, definitely. Ikeigwin - Yeah, what a stupid heading. I agree it's pretty funny. "Too much harsh cleaning" - should have said, "Harsh cleaning?". Any harsh cleaning is too much.
really? it seems you have lost all your persuasive powers these days but if i remember right the tpg's stabbed you in the back with gradeflation
