I recently had a trade offer for this coin. I need to know if it's real and if the grading company is legit.

NCG is a "basement slabber", not a reputable grading company, any grade they assign should not be taken seriously. I think they're hoping people will confuse them with NGC. As for the authenticity of the coin, i don't know, maybe someone with more expertise than me will weigh in.

Like @atcarroll said, NCG is not a reputable company. You should have posted good images of both sides, but based on the obverse image, the coin does not look like it has any luster and no way should it be graded MS.

The company is not market-recognized as "legit", and I consider the coin to be a cleaned AU.

Armed with your new found knowledge, if it's a marginally acceptable trade offer, I would accept -- and run. Just please make sure the person to whom you are trading knows what encapsulating company you're talking about (and isn't confusing it with another company with similar letters). You don't want the recipient coming back to you later if they have it re-graded and are dissatisfied.

The value of 1886-O skyrockets in Mint State condition. A genuine MS65 is a six-digit coin and nobody in their right mind would offer one worthy of the grade at other than a major auction. Run, do not walk, away. The coin you posted, to my mind, looks more like a cleaned AU (oh, just saw your post, @ToughCOINS :p ) than MS-65.

    NCG is notorious for this.
