What will the hammer price be now? 2 hours left. I just got through making sure it made its price guide value.... 204019270775
I thought the coin really looked good too for being MS60. I didn't see it going that high but it definitely did. The rattler and the CAC certainly helped.
For those like me who haven't a clue as to the price for a "standard" 1886-O, I just checked it up on PCGS Price Guide. Here are the values: AU58 - 550 MS60 - 1,400 MS61 - 1,600 MS62 - 2,000
I could see it going into an MS-61 holder, but would that make a difference? MS-60 has traditionally been a rare and odd ball grade. On a different note, I might be one of the few collectors who does not like PCGS rattlers. They don’t fit in slab boxes with newer PCGS and NGC slabs, and yes, sometimes they rattle which drives me nuts. I cracked a $10 gold piece out of a rattler years ago simply because it rattled. I hated the noise and figured it could hurt the coin. It had been an MS-64, but NGC called it an MS-65.
Yes, but for those who collect rattler, you might not see another one of these. And if the 3 at CAC that may be the only rattler in existence. And if 2 people want that rattler... I know a guy who has an almost perfect set of ngc fatty morgans with cac. To a guy like him who collects rattlers this might be the only one.
Yep me too. I wouldn't care what the holder was on a rare coin like this either. I wouldn't have paid 500 over the price guide on it either.
