I picked up a bag of Morgan's and other coins today from an old collection and most of them are in pretty good shape, but a few are very, very nice.

I'm very inexperienced in grading and am curious about what something like this might be considered.

I hope the scanner pics are adequate. They really do not so the coin justice, but does show some flaws that I did not notice before.

If anyone would like to see details, just point me in the direction that you want and I can take the pic.

    Any coments are appreciated.

The coin appears to have been heavily polished.

No problem. This is a GREAT place to learn.

    By the way, welcome aboard.

The coin was either dipped or whizzed or both before being polished! The evidence is the brighter areas within the recesses and around the details and lettering.

Lack of detail for one thing. The rims are not full and flat. The hair and breast feathers are lacking detail.

The stars, numerals and lettering are rounded on top. They would be flat (or nearly so) with squared off edges on a Proof coin.

Look at all the stuff pushed up against the devices and denticles. This is metal that has been either whizzed or polished from one area and deposited against the higher portions of the coin.

    I appreciate your insight.

I have several from the lot that have the same general appearance and figured they were polished, but wanted another opinion before sending them to the great land of Ebay.

I would have hated to sell them only to find out later that they really were just some of the most uncirculated coins I had ever had.

im no pro but the oval scratches and line scratches seem to be from your scanner lens or camera, both pics seem to have the same scratches in the same places,i could be wrong but check it out
