This is the absolute best Morgan that was included in my father's coin collection, which he divided between my brother and I. What do you guys/gals think she would grade? I haven't attempted to VAM her yet either, so please feel free to do so. I look forward to hearing your thoughts and opinions. NOTE: When you click on the images they will blow up in your face.
A very looking Morgan. A strong 64+ I would think. Very clean and nice original toning which great eye appeal. A handsome addition to any collection.
Very nice looking Morgan, even with the slight toning (not a big fan of toning ). Not a real Vammer, but I believe this might be a 1A (bar above the bowl in "6"). I am troubled by what appears to me to be mounting damage to the rims at: - U & M in UNUM - directly across from Libertys nose - under D & O in DOLLAR - at eagles right wing tip Other places on the edge are questionable, but if it was mounted, it didn't get much wear, since it is an excellent specimen otherwise. AAAAA+
I am at gem. That is a very perty Morgan. Very minor scuffing on the cheek and fields and Eagles breast. I could see it better than a 65 depends on the rim dings.
While this is a quite attractive coin, you have to recognize that this is also an extreemly common coin, even in very high grades. The strike on yours shows weakness in the hairlines - enough to preclude a 67 grade. The luster appears quite good (as you'd expect). The luster appears consistent with a 65 grade, maybe slightly higher. The eye appeal of this piece is nice - nothing great, nothing negative. It is a good looking coin, but won't get a bump in either direction for its eye appeal. Contact marks: There are a few whispy marks on the obverse which won't significantly detract from the coin. There is a very significant mark on the reverse, however, in the field under the left wing of the eagle. To me, this looks like a solid 65, with a shot at a low end 66. It's a nice coin, no doubt about it - and right one the borderline of being worth submitting. If you are sure it would get 66, it's worth it, if not, don't. (there are 5500 graded 66, so.... really, really common).
A very well thought-out and thorough assessment, as usual. I don’t plan to send in for grading. I trust members’ opinions here to narrow down and pinpoint a grade. Personally, I think it would get 65.
I'm in the 65 camp with a chance of a 66 due to the clean fields/cheek. It would need more "flash" or "pop" to get to 67. It's a cool piece to have from your father's collection.
65 came right to mind, then I clicked on the photo and it blew up in my face, and I went 64. I'm going back to 65 because that kind of magnification is not used. Great Coin!
