Alright so I bought it. PF65 by Numismatic Investments of New England.

The seller told me if it didn't come back PF65 from NGC he'd buy it back.

Hopefully shipping out Tuesday to NGC

    What do you think?

PF65 would be nice, PF65* would be better, a PF66 would make my week!

Nice coin! But I'm rubbish at grading early proofs. Love the toning though.

any concern about how dark it has toned on the obverse?

No, I don't believe so, I haven't had the chance to see many Seated proofs in hand, but the ones I have seen with colorful toning looked the same.

Here's one example I still have pictures for. PR63 on this one.

Still a pretty coin even with the details slab.

Que the "I was wondering why it wasn't already in a slab" posts.

That's too bad. The quality of your images really didn't allow for much educated guessing.

Yea it was tricky to get pictures as the coin was in not just a 2x2 flip, but the coin itself was in its own plastic holder. I'll have better pics when it arrives back.

I could tell you had two layers of plastic over the coin and that made it exceptionally tough, in addition to it being a proof, to get good images.

So your going to have the seller buy it back from you, then? Are you only out fees or is he buying it back at like 90% of the price you paid?

I asked before I bought it if it didn't come back as a PF65 if he'd buy it back and the guy that I believe sold it to him was there and said they'd buy it back. I called him as soon as the grade got posted today and he seemed pretty upset about it but he said ok. He said well what if it came back as a PF67. I said yea but that's why I asked before I paid for the coin. So once I get it back I'll be taking it back to him. We'll see how it goes when the coin is in front of him. It's still a beautiful coin but I can't pay PF65 for a details coin.

You paid 65 money for a raw proof? Did the seller provide images?

As a rule, unless it is clearly higher, I cap raw early proofs at 63 money and hope for the best.

I wonder if a resubmission or some professional conservation might change the outcome on this one. Tough break.

He's a local shop, about an hour from me.

It was graded by another company as a PF65, which I had never heard of but the coin looked nice in hand. I was more thinking about it grading a PF64 than coming back AT. So that's what I said to him when I called him. I paid PF65 money for a details coin and you said you'd buy it back if it didn't grade as PF65. I've spent a lot of money in his shop so I'm just wondering if he's going to bar me from his shop. I'm hoping we can work something out. I'd still like it, just not at the price.

I'm really sorry to hear about the grading results. The seller... if a man of his word.... should refund you in full + grading fees. Best of luck.

I don't think he should refund the grading fees since that wasn't part of your original agreement, but it's cool he's giving you a refund for the coin.
