Well..here goes. I picked this coin because it's really well struck and in great condition. I just used the available light coming through a window. Any comments on grading and photo are welcome!
Thanks for your reply..that's exactly the grade I gave this coin. One of the reasons I want to post some photos is to get an idea of whether I'm in the ballpark on my grading. I'm new at this..so all comments are apppreciated!
Looking at the coin, there's a huge amount of mint luster. The high points of the breast have a shine, but no wear. The rest of the breast is "frosty". If you look at the talons, which are one of the first points of wear, they appear to be well struck with no wear. At some point, I'll take some more photos with improved lighting.
I like this coin - MS64 also - Altered pictures below with the reverse being a killer strike possible PL - Could not get the Obverse clean though congrats
Thanks..I'm still working on my photo technique. Question, I'm new enough to this hobby that some of the acronyms are still a mystery. Does PL stand for "proof luster" or?
I'm diggin this silver lady. First thing I noticed is the frost and the breast feathers look great you can see luster in between the feathers and no scars on her cheek. These coin has everything I look for in a morgan lady. Good morgan great aquisition(sp).
Thanks for all the great comments. This coin is unslabbed and will likely not be submitted for grading. Currently, it's stored in a Marcus (Whitman copy) 2X2. Would you recommend another type of holder for my MS grade coins?
The Breast, neck and left wing (your right) tip wear first, not the talons. I'd like to see another picture of the coin. Would you thing this is MS?
After being whipsawed on the other thread trying to grade the 1794 dollar..I am beginning to doubt my powers of observation..but here goes. I'll go with all of the above. No wear on either morgan both are mint state with the first posted dollar being better struck than the second.
In my continuing quest to improve my photos..I will post another photo in a day or two. The photo I posted on this thread was monkeyed around with using my software. I took a look at several of my self-graded "MS" coins last night. I don't really have any doubts about this one, but I did demote the 1904-O I had posted on another thread from MS-60 to AU-58 after input from other posters including yourself. My goal with future photos is to capture the true "essence" (sounds high-falutin' no?) and other than cropping, to use as little editing with photo software as possible.
2 Ott lights Your lighting source seems to be okay but the spectrum it emits have to be compensated for with your camera white balance setting
I've got a white balance setting on the camera, I'll fiddle with it.. What is "Ott" an abbreviation for?
