This was my 2nd to last that I purchased to complete my set. It looks like it has had light cleaning. But it has the best features of all that I could find at the time. For the price I was willing to pay. Im gonna go with VF20 NET F12 What do you all think ?
Now that you brought that up - I have always wondered if the grading scale goes 1-70 why dont the grading companies use grades like F18 or XF42 ? Any one know ?
I think this is somewhat similar to EF and XF (both are extremely fine, one is slang). I have always used and heard F-10, although I guess some would say VG-10. Some top TPG's are also confused apparently, as some slabs have both F and VG 10. Does anyone know what the ANA Standards say about this? budgood, The grading scale does go from 1-70, yet only about 30 numerical values are commonly assigned. The main reason is what difference is there between an F-15 and an F-16. VF-22 and VF-23?
The standard grades in the ANA Standards Guide are... MS-70 to MS-60 for Mint State coins For circulated coins they say... AU-58, AU-55, AU-53, AU-50 EF-45, EF-40 VF-35, VF-30, VF-25 F-15, F-12 VG-10, VG-8 G-6, G-4 AG-3 Fair-2 Poor-1 About the intermediate numbers they say...
It depends on which edition of the book you are using. Over the years the ANA has added numbers not used previously. In the latest 6th edition, 2005, it is - AG-3 G-4 G-6 VG-8 VG-10 F-12 F-15 VF-20 VF-25 VF-30 VF-35 EF-40 EF-45 AU-50 AU-53 AU-55 AU-58 MS-60 thru MS-70 The TPGs sometimes add additional numbers to these at the bottom of the scale such as P-01. But I am not aware, nor have I ever seen a slabbed coin with a grade other than those I posted from AG-3 on.
Grade? About Very Fine. Cleaned? Probably. It's over 120 years old. BTW, that's a super coin. I'd like to offer my congratulations, to you, on nearly completing a set. Which one do you lack?
I actually have them all now. I finished it off with the 1888. Thanks- It was a fun time getting them all !
Thanks for the clarification everyone about 10. GDJSMP, A CU forum member (and probably many others, just an example) collects sets of Peace Dollars in both P-01 and FR-2. It's actually quite interesting.
Congratulations, all I'm missing now is the 1885. I'm hoping to pick it up at the worlds fair this summer. Maybe in a vg-9 or F-13 and coiming back to that bit why does a certain dealer that has 1 or 2 page adds in the major magazines use vg-7 to describe his coins? Any thoughts
Two possibilties - he is using his own grading standards and numbers - or he doesn't know any better.
