Having blown out on the last one.... can someone advise if this is real and what it might be worth? Thanks again, you blokes are a great help.
If it doesn't say COPY anywhere on the coin, and is authentic, and it is worth a little more than bullion value, maybe about $17-$20, and might get around that in auction.
No reason to place such a low value/liquid coin in auction, where you have to pay a commission to sell it. I think it's worth between $15 and $18.
I wasn't recommending he put it in auction, based on completed listings, that is what it might get, I'm not saying he should sell, I'm just stating what it may get in an auction.
T$, I bought a Walking Liberty copy the other day $2.50 and no where is it marked 'copy' or 'replica' but it is a copy.
Okay I think I know what where you are coming from here. You thought in my post I was justifying coins being genuine just because they didn't have COPY on them, please re-read my post thoroughly, no where did I say that. I said, "and is authentic" not meaning it is, assuming it is authentic, if I would have said "it is authentic" it would have been another story.
My "replica" Morgan 1886 CC arrived today. In a spastic moment late at night while posting some items of my own I had a this spaz~attack and bit 10 cents on the thing. And won.:goofer: It does not have COPY or Replica stamped on it. But if you hold the thing in your hand it is obviously NOT a real silver dollar. And now I have something with a Carson City mm which I carry in my pocket to show folks at yard sales when I ask~ "Do you have any old coins around that look like this?" Another funny thing here. The Red Book does not have a listing for 1886 CC's.
I was just indicating that the coin I purchased didn't have those words stamped on it. By looking at the coin you can see it is not authentic. Anyway it was just a comment.
Well the comment was directed towards me, so whats up? Was there something I was not clear on? Just wondering why you made the comment and directed it towards me is all. P.S. The reason I even mentioned the word copy, is because the last coin he showed had copy on it.
You're a Morgan Dude, T$. Why is there no listing in the Red Book for the CC mint making Morgan 1886's? Looks like the fakers fouled up thinking they work making '85's or something. Now that I have a Copy Coin of a coin that didn't exist I make have to take it out of my pocket! As for it being an obvious FAKE it's also about 10 grams light.
Always nice to own coins that weren't ever minted! LOL Well if you take it to yard sales and say do you have a coin like this, it still has the same effect, whether the coin is real or not. It is like buying a washington quarter, with the date of 1975. LOL
No genuine 1886-CC dollars were produced. I have seen a number of other counterfeit Morgan Dollars and Seated Dollars with dates/mint-marks for which no genuine ones were ever struck.
