I need some opinions on this coin I found locally.
It is an 1884 Gold Eagle. I think it would grade pretty high(i'm new to this).
It looks to be in very good shape with nice luster(not cleaned) and no digs or anything like that.
It is priced at $425..........would you buy or walk away?
    Thank you!

The bottom line is: What grade do you believe that it is?

A genuine eagle contains 0.48375 oz pure gold (about 1/2 oz). At today's spot price ($821.80), the melt value of an eagle is $397.55.

$425 for a coin whose gold alone is worth ~ $400.

It should weigh 16.7 grams. Check it if you can.

    Post pics.

    Leadfoot there is no spoon

That is too cheap. I would be wary of such a coin if offered raw -- either counterfeit or cleaned/damaged. If I didn't have the skill to be sure of the difference, I would run, not walk away...Mike
