I apologize ahead of time for the picture quality, although I must say it is not entirely
my fault....I bought 3 microscopes from amazon recently....The first one I immediately
returned to amazon, they gave me my refund and I purchased another one that was a little more expensive and when I got that one again I immediately shipped it back too. Again bought my 3rd amazon scope, that arrived and wanted to return as well, but I didn't...Still holding onto it...Why am I having all these problems? I bought a different one each time, one better than the one I returned, and not one of them came with any instructions on how to set it up and operate it properly...Wow....Totally unbelievable.

Anyways, now that I got that off my chest, I found this 1884 cent that's damaged...Either while being made, or someone being a dum dum..What do you guys think?

Dude!! Ditch the microscope for pictures. They don't work well. Got a cell phone (of course, everyone has one). Try it this way. Don't knock it until you try it.

Hi Joe - many of the cameras nested in scopes ( if that’s what you purchased) are obsolete, low resolution cameras. As Sal points out, the camera in your phone placed on books at an optimal focal distance will achieve better results. With each new release the cameras improve. For instance, I get better quality photos out of my old iPhone 5 than most microscopes with built in cameras.

Different colored backgrounds give better/worse results. Coffee filters are good for diffusing light. And filling the viewer will reduce the need to crop photos later. Good luck!

    Any time my friend.

This is a shoebox setup I also use. Built with repurposed materials.

You're right, a lot of the microscopes are junk but if you get the right one, you can get really good pictures:

These were taken with this 4k microscope (only like $34) on this stand (there are cheaper stands but I wanted the height to take pictures of larger coins).

Well done @wheelz! Inexpensive by my standards. I bought an inexpensive digital microscope on a whim (a buddy of mine owned a store so I got a great deal) but resolution was terrible and not an advertised. I took it back and he gave me the best he had for the same money. But also junk. With that I bought an AmScope and use that to take closeups at 10x but primarily use my iPhone 5 in the shoebox setup for my better and full coin shots. The only investment there was the LED lighting that conveniently fits at the end of the box. I forget now, but maybe $15?

I enjoy taking pics on a shoebox budget. Lol. A fun challenge…most of the time.
