So, I have had this for a while. It has been sitting around and though mine, I am not sure I want it in my Collection. This is a little bit of changing the lighting, to catch what I see in hand. First pics iso400 exp500 and aperture at 5.6 After taking these photos with my dslr it was even more evident of the problems with this coin. The high definition photos are very unforgiving. iso400 exp1000 ap5.6 The coin is absolutely bright white in hand, except to the right of the date.(yellow) Finally the closest to in hand inspection iso200 exp500 ap5.6 What is your opinion of the coin? numeric grade Details? The mm was missed and sold to me for under 25$ at a Pawn shop.
To me, it looks just like coins that have been through the PVC ringer and weren't rescued in time. And you're right - that DSLR with bright light can be brutally honest. Don't feel bad - I have an older German Zeppelin (I think it's a 5 Mark?) that is much, much, much worse than this one. Too bad, too, because it would be a valuable and cool coin if it was problem free.
Yes, the DSLR can take all the fun out of a coin. What you think you see and what is there, sometimes are a completely different story.
I had figured that it would stay in my collection as to the evidence that it was harshly cleaned. Though it hadn't crossed my mind that it could have been covered in PVC, I have not ruled out a dip because I haven't seen one that thoroughly covered yet, my eyes are new to worn and a abused coins, and usually pass on them all together, but this one was a CC. It weighs 26.7 on my scale, and the right dia.
Those are areas that I didn't even see, until I put it under the lens. The flashy area around the letters is the only part of the coin that has original surface. The other area is in the same position on the rev. I couldn't light it the same way as the rest of the coin.
