Where do you see the "2"?

Yes it is. This is one of the five different 83/2 varieties It has various catalog numbers FS5c-013.2 F-10 S1-5003 B2526 PM-18V.3 The FS number is from Cherrypickers but I don't know if it is the current edition. They made a change in the numbering system somewhere along the way. F-10 is from Fletchers book on shield nickel varieties. I think B2526 is from the Bren encyclopedia PM-18V.3 is from the Peters-Mahon book on Shield and Liberty head nickels.

The webpage for this 83/2 variety is http://www.shieldnickels.net/1883_2/fs013_2.html

Your coin seems to match the F-10b+ die stage.

Pretty interesting site and great photos... I would tend to agree with the F-10b+ stage as well, especially by the look of the "3"

Thanks so much for that info Conder. My coin really does look like the pic on that site.

Very Sweet - conder nailed it.. I have been looking to cherry pick one of these for years since I do not plan on paying the premium for it.

Imma guess right under the 3.

Actually the base of the 2 is between the 8 and the 3. Follow the link I posted earlier and you can see a better one where the overdate is clearer.
