Looks weakly struck. I've an 1887 that looks similar and is graded 63 (OGH). I think this is a tad nicer, and assuming there's no luster breaks, I'd say this is a 64.

EDIT: Just looked at it again and my gut is saying 63, so that's what I'm rolling with. MS63.

judging from the wear (or weak strike more like it considering the date) MS-60-62

    I will guess MS63.

It doesn't look like wear to me either...but the photos make it hard to see if there are any luster breaks. My thought is MS. This date is known for having some weak strikes but also some strong strikes...so you can't really say that because it is an "O" mint it is a weak strike. However, the toning pattern does make me think the coin was cleaned at one time.

I wouldn't say cleaned. I'd say partially dipped and retoned.

I was reluctant to give a number on this one too. That is the problem with coins like this. Without a point light source and tilting the thing, you will have no idea what an accurate grade should be. It could just as easily grade AU58 or no grade.

I bought a GSA 1884CC yesterday that is MS64 all day long; and I picked it up for $160 which I thought was fair.

I grabbed that for $40.00 w/ shipping, we'll see how it goes. :) Thanks for all the responses. I just couldn't make up my mind because of the toning. I agree, it may have been slightly cleaned years ago with retoning. Either way, if it is a horrible depiction of the coin, I can always send it back. Good luck to all in the "good search" for that special coin. I just picked up a 1899-P that is surely MS64, possibly 65 (wishful thinking) for $200.00. I'm a happy camper.

The new photos make me think it has been cleaned at one time...

I still don't see any wear on this coin...but I still stand by my original comments about it having been cleaned at one time.

    Final verdict - vam?

So, VAM 1C2 or 1C1? There is no buffing visible on the right wing area or left wreath. Definitely some going on in between the mid-left wing and right wreath. Can't tell if the die marker is above the D, as it appears to be a pretty weak strike.

Any thoughts/suggestions are appreciated. I am thoroughly enjoying this coin! Not sure why this one in particular, haha.
