Can anyone tell me roughly what grade this coin is and what it might be worth....i'm considering purchasing it if I can get a good price. Thank you in advance, Ed
At first glance it appears to be at least an AU, but I can't be sure from the picture whether or not there are telltale jairlines on the reverse from a cleaning. The reverse is definitely the original 1883 "no cents" version, but in the picture the date looks more like 1888 to me. I have no idea what a good price would be Ed, as I don't follow US coin prices.
I'm going to say MS63/64 based on the pic - in hand I may change my mind. What appears to be slight wear on the hair at the top of the forehead and behind the ear is normal for the '83 and is not wear at all - just weakly struck.
I agree with the 63 to 64 grades. Not a bad coin if picked up in the $35 to $55 range. Would really have to see the coin to judge the fair price for the grade.
