has any body herd of NCI and are they a good grading outfit, the paper i got with the coin said they were some of the hardest people on grading coins. heres some pictures of the old coin in a fold.
My recollection is that I heard NCI was pretty consistent but generous in their grading. Since they no longer exist, the NCI paperwork might have some value so don't send it to NGC until you get some responses from others who know more than I do about it.
Cant really guess the grade from the pics, but that looks like a nice die clash right on libertys neck. I would check VAM world to see if its one of the die clash VAMs. It seems like every 83' CC I see these days has a die clash.
Even though this is a NCI, I am willing to bet it will come back MS-64 or MS-65. Look for photocert-ANACs and PCGS green rattlers. Actually if human were "slabbed" I would probably be in a "green Rattler". Jim
No. ANACS was created by the ANA (American Numismatic Association) in 1972 as ANA Certification Service (ANACS) to certify coins due to the large number of counterfeits floating around. Later (1979) they offered grading services, too. ANACS was the first TPG (Third Party Grading service). NCI came along LONG after that.
NCI was active from 1984 to about 1991. During that time they used eight different certificate varieties and combined it with a slab for the coin on at least two of them. I have been able to determine what order the certificates came out in, but you can't tell from the certificate style alone when a certificate was issued. NCI actually used six of the certificate styles at the same time. During the 1980's while they were active NCI was considered to be the bottom tier service. After they closed down ACG took that position. Yet today when NCI coins are encountered the general opinion seems to be that their grading is pretty accurate. I don't know how the coins got better in the years since then.
