I had this piece listed on the Open section, but there were no bites. So I guess I'll throw it up on the fleabay. I want to know how you'd all grade it and get an approximate value for it, so I don't look like a schmuck when I list it, lol. I grade it AU50-55 by 1981 ANA Grading Standards. 1882 O/S Vam 3
The coin has AU details, but the luster is sadly lacking - at least in the pics. If the luster is there in hand then I would say AU50 - if it is not, XF45.
Do you mean die state as pertaining to the over mintmark? I'm used to ancients, where if its late die state, you practically can't read the legends! Lol. Oh man, I should really dip this. The dark stuff on the obverse would completely dissappear.
Ardatirion, The EDS, MDS and LDS actually pertain to the Die State when the coin was minted! However, in this case, the rarity of the VAM in reference to the O/S Mintmark is dependent upon the Die State of the coin. Check out www.vamworld.com for more info on the differences between the EDS specimens and MDS/LDS specimens. You might find some info on www.ashmore.com and www.rjrc.com as well. Frank
