1882-s Morgan NEW Vam ERROR????? I just bought this coin it grades in MS-64 PL. Well after looking at it closely there appears to be some minute die errors and cracks. It also appears to have some doubling going on. The 82 looks strange. The Key thing is to the right of the neck of the eagle between the neck and wing it looks like there is almost like a spider webbing effect that has occured so I am naming it the spiderweb effect I went to VAMLINK website and I dont see any info on this error any help would be greatly appreciated.

You can always contact the folks at VAM Link.com - send the pics. I have a friend who's a recognized expert on these - I'll ask him to stop by and have a look.

These look like die scratches caused by intentional die abrasion ("die polishing").

The striations behind the eagle's neck are die polishing marks. While polishing here is quite common with this reverse, the distinct parallel lines are interesting. They wouldn't constitute a new VAM number, though.

The obverse has a repunched 82 on the right edge of the numerals, and the spur on the diagonal of the 2 (below the ball) shows up on various 1882 repunched date coins. Were I to attribute the coin just from the date, I'd probably say it was a VAM 13.

The picture of the U is somewhat interesting. Which U is this, and am I seeing rather sloppy doubling on the top right serif, similar to on many 1878 obverses or is this something else?
