Won this on heritage and the coin has not arrived yet. Could this be a snow-6? Me and toad think so. Rick Snow has a couple examples for sale and here is onehttp://www.indiancent.com/market/82s6c50p5.jpg. You can also see an example in the Cherry pickers guide. I can't wait for the coin to arrive. What are your thoughts - did I cherry pick one?
It appears to be the Snow-6. Please keep us advised if you try and sell this coin. I'd be VERY interested in the real premium paid for these vareties....Mike
It sure looks like it has the number "1" digit in the pearls around the neck. A close-up of this area should determine if it's a Snow 6 or not. It should reveal the base of four number 1 digits, three before the ribbon and one right next to the left side of the ribbon. There also the base of an 8 hidden between the hair curl and the bust truncation. Beautiful coin and nice cherrypickin. This coin is considered rare as less than 10 examples reported. (According to Rick Snow in his attribution guide 1870-1889, 2nd edition). If you can post some close-ups of the neck area when you get it I love to see them. What'd you pay for this one? Bruce
Hey Mark, Are the two pics the same coin or is one used as a reference for the other and if it isn't of the same coin, which one is yours? Ribbit Ps: I told ya it was a Snow-6.
I forgot to give toad credit for the pictures and yes you did agree it was a snow 6. Yes - they are the same coin. I just used autolevel on the lighting on the coin for the one picture. I spent $105 on the coin - including buyers premium and shipping. I fell a sleep on the night of the auction and woke up with 2 minutes to go. Actually ran into the room to bid on the coin - I figured I either had a good cherry pick or a over priced MS63 brown coin. Which it could still be. Can't wait to get it - when I do get it I will attach better pictures. I figure I might have to talk with Rick Snow. I am not sure how I would move a variety like this. More research is in order.
I think you'll make Rick's day when you email him better photos and at MS-63, you stole it for the price you got it for. As for it being an over-priced MS-63 coin, that'll occur if you sell it. Ribbit Ps: It may be worthy of re-submitting to the TPG for Snow attributing. :thumb:
And I was just at HA a little bit ago looking at your pics and didn't even think to look at the slab. :goofer: Contact NGC and see if they will attribute it? I think they'd be stupid not to, since that means more money for them and I wouldn't think they have so much business that they would turn business away? Ribbit Ps: Here's how I would word the email to entice them into doing it (excluding puns): Dear Meatheads, I have come into possession of a gorgeous NGC MS-63 1882 Indianhead Cent that has also been determined to be a Snow-6 Variety and I would like to have it attributed. I am well aware of the fact that ANACS will attribute Snow Varieties to Indianhead Cents but I'm not sure if NGC will. I'd rather send it to NGC to have the attribution added but will send it to ANACS if I have to because you won't. Regretfully yours, Bonerbutthead Ribbit-Ribbit-Ribbit
Toad: Don't you think that "Dear Meatheads" is a little bit storng? How about toning it down, perhaps: Dear Money Hungry, Cash grubbing TPG'er:
Here are the pictures and some snapshots. Depending on the angle you get the light at you see the red hidden in the devices. Very nice coin.

Hey LF? Don't you just hate smartiebutts? :hammer: Ribbit Ps: You hold him down and I'll swipe his little Indian from him.
