This one got graded once by a Third Party Grader that its no longer in business and came back as MS66. I am not a professional grader nor have a clue how much I could ask for it, if I was to sell it one day. First I would like to know if you agree with the grade, and secondly what it may be worth. The scratches on the reverse picture are only on the holder and not on the coin itself. I would appreciate any answers and dont hold back on the comments. Thanks
A grading service no longer in business, was no doubt a basement grader, no set standards in their grading, and obviously over graded this Morgan, and probably everything else they graded. Sorry, but there is way too much wear, from circulation, on the high points of this coin to be in the uncirculated grade range. Much wear can be seen in the hair above the ear, base of neck, a scratch on the cheek, the breast feathers have signs of wear, and I'm not so sure if this was cleaned as it looks like it might have been. At best, high end AU. You might be able to stretch a selling price of $35, but realistically, not much more than melt. It's a common dollar, with 12,760,000 struck in San Francisco that year.
In the future, if you want us to estimate a grade, please give us two photos, one of the FULL obverse and one of the FULL reverse. Bits and pieces doesn't help that much. Thanks, Chris
From a technical standpoint the next grade up on this one from AU58 is MS63/64, somewhere in there. From a money or market standpoint, I wouldn't even venture a guess. On these pics, I see the onset of tarnish, I see luster grazes and luster breaks, or luster loss, and some slight circulation wear. Surface-wise, it's a rather "dull" or "flat" example of this well-struck series. AU58, for my money.
