Hi everyone. I have an 1881 O morgan dollar that i bought last June for $12. Its about XF-40 or XF-45 by my opinion. I remembered that I have a morgan dollar that my friend gave me for $3 at home. The $3 morgan had the early stages of Acid buildup (like the kind from being left for a long time in PVC flips). I was wondering if acetone works good on silver to remove this acid. I know that its not a good idea to clean coins, but i cant just sit there and watch it be eaten alive!!!!

So is Acetone Safe to use, and does it tone the coin at all? Thanks
    Would it deduct value?

Pure acetone will take off the PVC and not damage the coin. Make sure that the acetone is in glass, not plastic, and soak away. If it is really bad, you may have to change the acetone several times, but be sure to rinse it in clean acetone, then put it aside to dry. Leaving the PVC on the coin lowers it's value, not using acetone on it. ;)

Will acetone give any unnatural tonning?

No it will evaporate before anything can happen from what I have seen. A few poeple I know have done this & even submited them to NGC & nothing was mentioned.
