I purchased this coin today at a shop because the date looked a little odd but I did not have my loop so I took a chance. When I got home and looked at it I noticed the date was doubled on the bottom and some letters on the front and most letters on the reverse were messed up as well. Any Ideas?

To be quite honest the way it looks around the D E & S I would wonder if it is an altered coin. Could be wrong, but I've never seen die doubling or mechanical doubling that looked like that.

I just noticed the stars to the left of the date appeared doubled as well? Heres a pic.

What you have is not an error, but a "VAM Variety dollar". All Morgan and Peace dollars are Vams. It refers to the die pairs used to make your Morgan dollar. Most Vams add very little value to the coin, but other Vams can make your coin very valuable.
