Holy Smoke!!! This 1880 Newfoundland cent I got today at an antique shop appears to have something going on with the (oval?) O. BTW, there were only 400,000 of these minted! http://www.jandm.com/script/getitem.asp?PID=116 Bone
Bonedigger, It doesn't look like the Oval variation to me Looks like a round 0 elevated Obverse looks VG8-F12
When I was in school, there was a little rhyme about the (Chi Omega's) sorority. Really not repeatable, LOL And, it went along with the same tune from 'Snow White...' Bone
The Oval 0 variety is actually quite a rare one.As a collector of British Commonwealth coinage,Newfoundland coins are definitely of interest to me.I once had an 1872 Newfoundland gold $2,which had been mounted as jewellery as a spacefiller in my collection, but unfortunately,my flat was broken into back in 2002.Unfortunately,it was never recovered.
