Holy Smoke!!! This 1880 Newfoundland cent I got today at an antique shop appears to have something going on with the (oval?) O. BTW, there were only 400,000 of these minted!

It doesn't look like the Oval variation to me
Looks like a round 0 elevated
Obverse looks VG8-F12

 

Yeah, your right. After I got a better look at it it's a (Hi-O).

When I was in school, there was a little rhyme about the (Chi Omega's) sorority. Really not repeatable, LOL And, it went along with the same tune from 'Snow White...'

The Oval 0 variety is actually quite a rare one.As a collector of British Commonwealth coinage,Newfoundland coins are definitely of interest to me.I once had an 1872 Newfoundland gold $2,which had been mounted as jewellery as a spacefiller in my collection,but unfortunately,my flat was broken into back in 2002.Unfortunately,it was never recovered.
