1880 Morgan Vam Its Either 11A Or 53A ?

This is a tricky one, not sure if its 11A or 53A .

From the photo's it appears to more than likely be VAM 53A as opposed to VAM 11A. But it would be easier to have higher mag images of the specific pick up areas.

 

I don't have the coin yet .
I also posted it on vam world .

 

53A has a clash by TRUST .
I don't see it on this coin .

 

Click on the image. There is a clash on trust that matches the 53A photos. That is actually what was making me lean towards the 53A.

 

I do not see any doubling in the 880 to make me think it's an 11A.

 

Now that I have looked at it again. The clash is from the same device, but the alignment is different. The clash is too far North into the S of TRUST. I think it may be a completely different VAM than the 2 in question.

 

I see it now, not sure if its the same clash as the one on vam world

I would be willing to bet it's a 21A. Comparing the date to the 21 photo's it's almost dead on. The slight doubling of the 1 and second 8 as well as the die chip between the loops of the first 8 to the left outside. Match that up with the clashing near the neck of 21A and it's pretty much a dead lock.

 

I guess just go off of 21 and add the double clash at the neck for 21A .

 

I have it as 21A. The die gouge in the lower hair, visible here, is diagnostic.

 

So is the die chip above the eye ..

 

Not bad for 39 bucks .
