1880 Morgan .... Grade opinions

NGC graded this Morgan MS-62.
Do you agree with the grade?

I'm okay with it. If I were grading it, I'd be there or maybe 61. The relative lack of hits argues for the 62. I find the toning unattractive and the luster seems about absent.

 

Agreed. The picture and toning make this a hard call for me. Any opinion on the obverse rim between 9-10 o'clock?

 

I'd say AU58, but not very attractive.

Also OK with NGC's grade... Looks dull, some contact marks, eagle's breast looks flat.

I'd like to see the toning under a good light, looks to have some colors but not very vivid.

I wouldn't throw a fit about the 62 grade. I think it was a hair on the generous side and NGC seems to go that way with CC Morgans. It's as most others have already stated, the eye appeal, apparent lack of luster and the bag marks would limit this as a 62. I think it could be a slider, but can't be conclusive without seeing it in hand.

 

Looks like a commercial unc 2 me eyeballs.

I think I would prefer MS61.

 

Obverse looks pretty baggy. 60-61 would be mine. They may have bumped it to 62 for the slight toning. I like the reverse, nice contrast.

 

I can see it. And I can see it as a 61 or 58 too. Is a in between 61-2 lower end 62 high end 61
