I picked this up Friday in a group of 5. It was the nicest of the bunch. Can you help me grade it to determine a value. I think I got a deal, help me get a better one. Thanks for your help and opinions.
Just a wild Guess. AU50 $60-65. JMO 1879 S Morgan Silver Dollar Reverse of 1879 Coin Value Prices, Photos & Info (usacoinbook.com)
I can't tell if there's wear or not, but if there is wear I'll say AU-58 and if there isn't then I'd say MS-65. (Note: I'm still learning to grade coins myself. )
I’d put in the AU range due to the fingerprints on the reverse. It’s obviously been handled and lightly worn.
I see fingerprints, cleaning, and uneven toning. 1879S Third Reverse, low EF40 high AU50. All Morgans are worthy and very collectable in my opinion. Congrats.
Besides the fingerprints those marks on her are mostly just superficial luster grazes, so that's good. Still, they'll bring her grade down some. If I submitted and she came back MS62, I could accept it. Overall, I like her, nice coin.
I paid $39.50 each for the lot of 5. $195 Total. All grade at least AU using ANA grading standards and Photograde.
Even with the finger prints, I'd give it a MS62. Too bad about the finger prints though, that might bring the price down. $80.
Might be hopeless, but an acetone wash/soak/rinse (don't rub or scrub) might help with the fingerprint and really wouldn't hurt.
