1879/8 Shield Nickel

    Okay here it is. I finally found one that I could afford. The 1877 thru 1880 typically bring prices I might not ever be able to afford. Got lucky with I will just have to keep waiting for the 77,78 and 80 that I need. The coin looks better in hand I think than the scans.

    That's a beautiful coin.
    There probably aren't a lot like that one around.
    Truly a coin worth having.

    Do you collect Shield nickels by die variety?

    I don't, but I often enjoy browsing Howard Spindel's website.
    His knowledge, and dedication to the series always amazes me.

    Not really, but I really like some of the varieties. I am not sure if I will ever be able to complete a date. I need to get me a book on the varieties and see if I can attribute the ones I do have.

    Looks great!...I once thought about doing a set of these and picked up a few in nice grades but haven't done much with them....
    I also agree with Jody---Howard is an expert when it comes to these things...
