The first photos I presented were under artificial light with uneven results. Please have a second look at this Trade Dollar photographed under natural light. 1. What is the grade? (My opinion is AU50) 2. Has it been cleaned? (I don't think so but not 100% sure) 3. I paid $160. Is it worth it to send it out for grading?
Very unnatural look to it. Appears to have been cleaned. I think at best, you're looking at XF. It's value in XF grade, would not be much more than you paid for it, maybe an additional $20-$35 over what you paid.
Doesnt look cleaned to me. I would say a nice XF. Personally, I would spend the $25 to get it certified by PCGS but really its how you like it best. You got a good deal on that one.
I'm thinking XF-40 or 45. Send it in to a TPG, if you don't want to pay PCGS/NGC fees wait for an ANACS special (they run a few times a year).
THANK YOU to all for your input. I've adjusted my own assesment of this coin. I now see this coin as EF45. I still don't believe it's been cleaned but I'm not sending it to a TPG. The upside for me is not that great. I'll put it in a mylar flip for my collection.
I'd have to say XF as well and if it was cleaned, it was a long long time ago which was not uncommon then.
I like it. I would never buy a raw T$...too often counterfeited...but this one looks pretty nice. Get it slabbed or not, your call. But when it comes time to sell it you will do much better if it's in a reliable TPG holder. Lance.
I feel it's worth more than a mylar flip. Put it in a hard case like Airtite if you don't send it to a TPG.
