Hey there guys, This coin has been driving me nuts. I need help finding this error or if it is even a listed coin. Or first of its kind. Checked with Vamworld but nothing to help with this unless I am looking in the wrong area. I have been spending an hour here, hour there, an hour every other day on this coin. Just to locate it or to find a value.. I am stumped and I need some experts for help. You guys are my go to. Lower hair lock missing... forth star on the right missing an arm. Many thanks to all Pocket_change
Coin has not been cleaned, I know better than to to clean any of the coin I acquire. Not going for value, this one is staying in my collection. Seeing if anyone out there that has seen this before. Thank you for you time Pocket_change
OMG paddy!! I am terrible sorry. I apologize!!! I just reread that reply and I feel that I came off completely rude... I am very sorry for that reaction. Terrible of me Sorry paddy54 my bad.
This coin looks like it's missing the Arrow Nock also. This VAM talks about missing 4th star point. also about reengraved hair. Makes me wonder if your coin was produced before the reengraving? http://www.vamworld.com/1878-S+VAM-113 Just seems close to this, so not sure. You could have it submitted. The missing hair looks like it was caused from a over-polished die. And because you didn't ask for Grade and Value I will not comment there.
Nobody's accusing you personally of having cleaned the coin, but somebody did something to it at some point in the past. Your images clearly illustrate it. The circular nature of the hairlines kind of hints at some non-deliberate cause, but the result is the same in terms of grading The missing point on the star is a known feature on 1878-S, as is a more-or-less broken "r" in "trust," although yours appears to be the "unbroken" type. Have a look at the relevant attribution guide, and you'll see how common and varying these features are: http://www.vamworld.com/1878-S+B2+Varieties
