Hey...First of all I'm old, 68 yrs. old. Also computer illiterate, so please be nice and don't tell me I'm dumb....I already know.
I inherited some coins from my Mom about 20 yrs ago that had belonged to her late husband. The only thing I knew about coins was my meager collection of wheat cents that I had been collecting since I was a kid.
OK, if somebody would be so kind to help me with info about my topic titled Morgan. This coin is UNC and would grade at least MS63 IMHO. Additionally the doubled feathers are strong. I don't have a clue of its value. I Also have about 100 Morgan's that I want to sell and a lot of other silver coins because my kidney cancer has returned and I want to avoid my husband from getting ripped off like he did when he sold his late father's coins. I know....TMI...Sorry. So if you can help me out, it would be greatly appreciated.
    Many thanks & God bless.

I hope you will be able to post some decent photos, because without them, we would just be guessing what you have.

Hi DJ’s mom. My I extend my best wishes to you while you battle your cancer.

The 1878 Morgan is the fist year of issue and is a year rife with varieties. The 7/8 tail feather is one of those popular varieties because it is very readily identifiable. It is a common variety. I am not a variety collector and I have one. Without a photo it is impossible to say, but average uncirculated specimens can go anywhere from maybe $175.00-$300.00.... More if the grade justifies it. Good luck!

Hi DJ's Mom. From one Floridian to another prayers and best of luck with your cancer. This group has a host of knowledgeable folks who I'm sure can help with your coins. In addition, if you would like to try and compare your coins for grade level PCGS website https://www.pcgs.com/grades is a great coin collectors tool, and its easy to navigate. Note that the 7/8 Tail Feather Morgan comes in two types a)weak strike and b) strong strike. Grades up to AU (almost uncirculated) are pretty much equal value but when you reach Mint State levels the value increases significantly with the Strong strike out pacing the Weak strike by almost double.

Hey there Fellow Floridian! Thanks for the best wishes and the helpful info. The best I can tell is this coin for sure of the strong strike variety. After comparing this coin with my graded Morgans, it should grade out MS 61 to MS 63.
I have been trying to get a decent shot, but I'm a crappy photographer with a phone camera that doesn't help.I'll try to get a pic somehow. Also, I have a lot of silver coins I need to sell. Also I already had my right kidney removed. I had the cancer 10 yrs or so because of totally incompetent doctors. Now after 3 yrs clear, I have a renal cyst in my LEFT kidney as well as one in my RIGHT lung....so hopefully this time it will slow grow. OMG, talking TMI. Sorry!!!! I will try to post some pics. Thanks for writing. Terri

Hello DJ's Mom. Like most here have said, a few pictures will help to evaluate your coins. The 1878 7/8 tail feather comes with many varieties. Many are common but still command good premiums in uncirculated condition. Also that coin has one of the rarer varieties, the VAM 44 triple cotton blossom variety, King Of The VAMS. In MS-61 it could have a wholesale of $9,000 and a retail around $13,000. There were two MS 61 of the VAM 44 variety on eBay with asking prices of $13,500 and $14,500. There are many reputable dealers and appraisers on coin talk. Always ask the person evaluating your coins if they evaluate for varieties. If they say no, go elsewhere. Take your coins around to a few dealers for their evaluation. Don't be pressured to sell. I have spent thousands of hours evaluating coins for people and never made or charged a dime but both the person and I can sleep at night knowing they got and I gave a fair evaluation. I have been collecting coins for 66 years and enjoy cherry picking coin dealers who don't do varieties. Keep reading the advice of CoinTalk members. Best wishes getting your coins evaluated.
