1878 Morgan Dollar in case with large error? I have been researching for this coin and I know it wouldn't be likely that I found the same error twice. I'm not sure where this coin came from I am trying to learn a better understanding of my coin collection... Although the last three that I had just received I have read so much about them but it all seems to contradict itself. Please If anyone know anything of these coins or know what direction I should go it would help a lot.
Welcome to the site. I had to log into yahoo, then create a flickr name, yet don't have permission to view your photo. It would help us and help you get a great number of responses if you could please upload a picture to this thread.
First, welcome to the neighborhood! The only thing I can tell you is that the Morgan is a silver dollar, not a half dollar. I won't be able to tell you anything else from that photo. We need photos of both sides, and please, take them from directly overhead rather than an angle. You can open an account with Photobucket (I think it's free) to post your photos directly to these forums. Chris
Yes it was a typing slip it is a Morgan Silver Dollar also sorry about the photo I should be able to get the other photos up in a quick flash.. ''Thank you its nice to hear from you
What does this mean?? Are you saying that "perhaps" the OP's coin is AN error and that the first coin you ever bought was an 1878 8tf (tail feathers)?
How do we know this is an 8TF? How do we know this is even a Philly? No, he's simply saying that the first one he bought had been cleaned because he wouldn't listen to me. Chris
Cleaned? .... the back looks like it has some kinda marks on it kind of like stains. I hope these photo's help looking forward to the feed back
It's a "79 Reverse" (Slanted Arrow Feather). Here are the VAMWorld listings. Scroll down about three-fourths of the way for the Slanted Arrow Feather (SAF). http://www.vamworld.com/1878-P+VAMs Unfortunately, you have what looks to be a severe condition issue on the reverse. It could be PVC contamination, and if it has eaten into the surface, there is no helping that coin. Chris
The only "error" I see is a significant die clash of the back of the head in the lower right quad of the reverse. I'm not sure if it is from cleaning or some other kind of etching but just from the general look I would wonder about authenticity.
I'm not sure about the mark on her cheek. Im also not sure where to take it to get it looked at by a professional, my friend said to take it to the jewelry store but I didnt think that sounded right.. I was looking to get it looked at to see the worth of it has been a curiosity of mine since I have not a clue about the "KE" mark on her face. I have continued to search for what it could mean if it means anything at all no luck so far..
