I recently found my dad's old coins in a bag in the attic. In the bag there were a 1878 morgan dollar and a 1921 morgan and a few others that i don't kow what they are. what value a the 2 morgan dollars?
Good question and welcome. With respect to book value, the devil is in the details, so to speak. It depends on a number of factors, such as condition, mint mark (where the coin was made), etc. Photos and scans can really help with this. A coin of these sorts in Mint-State conditon can be worth anywhere from $50 - $5000 or more, depending on how "mint" the coin actually is. In terms of actual silver value, a Morgan Silver Dollar has roughly .77 oz of silver in it, and spot price for silver is approx $11, that translates to about $8 worth of silver per coin. Sometimes, coins can have more value than either "book value" or silver value. I still have some of the first coins I ever collected and I wouldn't sell them for anything. If you can post some scans, please do!
