1878 Morgan Dollar

    18780001.jpg 78r0001.jpg I just bought this coin at a local pawn shop I really do not know much about morgans can you tell me witch type this one is and the approximate value I bought it only because it was so cheap and i do not know why the obverse looks so much different than the reverse I tried looking up the coin and it showed 7 T F 8T F 7/8 TF 7/8 TF Reverse I have no idea witch one it is thank you for the help

    I hope "rick" at the pawn shop didn't charge you too much for that coin. Looks like a '78-S to me; however, I know nothing about VAMs. There's plenty of damage to your Morgan, and if genuine, would be worth a little over melt value.

    That is the only Reason i bought it I paid 17.99 for it. I Think that is at least melt value or close to it. i seen the damage when i bought it but for 18 bucks i like the coin if only to have one

    A little above the current price of $14.57, but not bad. Even damaged, well worn Morgans sell on eBay for $20 plus. It looks to me like your coin was possibly encased as a piece of jewelry or belt buckle (note the four rim depressions) and possibly polished on the obverse.
