I am unable to post any picture of this coin but it is an 1878 CC morgan graded MS62 by PCI that I was given a gift. According to Numismedia this coin is values at $312 in the grade specified. The coin's label is green (which I believe represents that it is an older slabbed coin). The coin appears to me (with limited grading skills) to acceptable at first glance. However upon closed examination there is coin or bag dings on the check that appear to be just a bit more than the dings that I have on an ATB quarter that I got from PCGS underneath their give away program. So my question is (sight unseen and going by the appearance as I've described) is it fair to believe that this coin could be resold at the value and grade as it appears. I do wish that I had a camera to post a picture, but at the present time that cannot be done because I don't own a camera. What is the over view of a PCI graded coin in the market place and what is their overall reputation?
I should add that when I went to the PCGS site for a look at the photograded coin, I was surprised to see that the example was marked up remarkedly like mine. So could it be a reasonably correctly graded coin and given that observation, would it be summarily downgraded by a prospective buyer.
At one time, PCI was fairly respected as a grading service (5th behind ANACS and ICG) but they fell into financial difficulties. With that said, I don't think you will get anything close to $300 for this Morgan. Chris
