I have searched for a VAM for this 1878 8TF Morgan. Can't find anything. What grade would you assign? On the reverse, there is a line between T and A. A line below 'In", an extra dot to the right of the eagle. The "In" is almost touching the wing. Thx for input.
I'm seeing what I *think* to be the A1k reverse and VAM-14.1A - the feather configuration seems right, I see the reverse clashing in the correct place, and the appropriate die scratch inside the eagle's left leg feathers. There's a dot where I expect one inside the star next to the M, and at least a little of the roughness above that M which ought to be there. What I'm *not* seeing is the obverse clashing artifacts which ought to be there, and doubling on the 8's which aren't noted for the variety. More discussion is appropriate. There's a bad spot of PVC contamination above and left of the eye which needs to be addressed. Chances are there's undeveloped PVC elsewhere on the coin, as well.
This is VAM 14.1A. The clashing isn't visible at Liberty's neck because the coin is being lit from 8:00. Light it from 11:00 and it'll show up. The clash of the wreath behind Liberty's head is visible in this picture. An unclashed VAM 14.1 is quite rare. I agree that the green spot needs to be removed from the obverse post haste, and whatever it is by the upper right wreath on the reverse that has the big halo around it should also be removed. Can't really tell grade very well from the picture. Maybe a nice AU, maybe uncirculated.
New pics. Clashing is more evident. Some lines disappeared. Acetone bath. Any ideas on how to remover spot on reverse?
