    Hi,

I am thinking about purchasing this coin. Any ideas on why the front would be so much more worn that the back?

Also, what price would be the top you would offer for this if you were me?

    Thanks!

maybe used a jewelry at one time in its life? mounted on a pendent or belt buckle where the obverse was exposed and the reverse was not...

Any idea on what it would be worth in this condition?

Melt. It was probably mounted obverse up in a ring.

Even if I were to get it graded?

Yeah... It's simply been destroyed by being in jewelry. Maybe worth a SLIGHT premium over melt... but any more than $200 - $225 would most likely be a VERY hard sell.

It'd be cool if those old 2 grade holders still existed...MS62/PO01

It is ex-jewelry and not worth much at all.

That would be nice to put in a ring with the reverse up

A $3 Gold at melt? LOL!

The cheapest one that's sold on eBay lately was close to P01 on both faces, and got $310. Trashed, holed, and soldered ones regularly go over $400 there. I've never found one offered at our local shows for less than $600.

I know dealer bid and retail are very different things, but I'd think eBay alone would keep these from settling anywhere near melt.

Is there really a place where non-dealers can get abused $3's that cheap? I have a soft spot in my heart for coins that have nothing left to lose, and I'd love to add one of these to my "petting zoo" type set...
