the photos are the sellers photos. i have not received the coin in the mail yet. any opinions about what the value of this coin might be?
I really dislike eBay scans with the coin still in the holder. That being said, the seller was honest about the cleaning. I know some members here will say "melt", but in reality, even the lowest grades of this coin sell in the $4 to $6 range. I doubt if this is AU details... it would be nice to see a good photo once you receive it. I think $20 is a little high, but hopefully it will look better in hand.
why do people ruin such nice pieces, why would you even mess with it, makes no sense to me, unless, they had a family fight, when the owner died
It could have been cleaned a long time ago when cleaning a coin was viewed as a normal and non-harmful practice.
maybe, but its silver, how dirty could it get, tarnished yes, but again, in the shape its in, why would you clean it, or wiz it
My mistake... that was for another 1877 he was selling with "MS60" written on the 2x2. However, your coin looks so "washed out" it does appear cleaned. Maybe it's just the scan... let us know when you receive it. Here's the "MS60" from the same seller which sold for $25:
