A number of years, ago, I found this rare 1877 Indian Head Cent with my metal detector. I didn't realize what I had until later years while looking through some of my finds..Notice the green coating from being in the ground so long. About two years, ago, I dug up an 1877 Indian Head Cent in what used to be a park in the 1800's which I may post, later. http://i138.photobucket.com/albums/q262/swanie1/1877IndianHeadside2.jpg http://i138.photobucket.com/albums/q262/swanie1/1877IndianHeadside1.jpg
That is awesome!!! Decent condition, and it looks like a Shallow N, not a bad variety either! How deep did you find it?
My problem is that I don't keep a log of what and where I've found over the years so I don't remember where I found it. Most of my found coins run in the 3" to 6 or 7" range. I should keep a log.
Swanie1: Nice find. What machine do you use? I use Whites XLT and DFX. But I never found anything like that.
That is a very nice find. You said that you found it where a park use to be in the 1800's, so it should not be hard to find again. A friend of mind found a 1922 No D in Illinois not far from Rantoul. It sound like a nice place to take a metal detector.
Swanie: Nice, I used a Garrett at one time, found some good stuff with it. Now, I only use the Whites. But I never found anything like that ... and I have been lucky enough to hit some Barbers and Indians. Good luck.
