Because of the scratches Fine details which might effect value. https://www.ngccoin.com/coin-explor...erty-quarters-1838-1891/15502/1876-cc-25c-ms/
I am a tad more optimistic on yours. People tend to like the mystique surrounding the Carson City mint. The quarter is damaged and it appears to have been cleaned, but Carson City coins tend to fare better than their damaged counterparts by other mints. If it weren’t damaged I believe you would have a $140.00 coin. With the damage you may realize about half that.
@Brandon hurst, first of all, you've been a member here at CT for almost 6 years, and if you read the posts, even on an irregular basis, you might see that we would like more definitive questions. What do you want to know about the coin? We can't read your mind and I for one, would only research and give you all of the facts about the coin if you were to pay me. Also, please follow this information when posting. For the best results, you should post "in focus," FULL IMAGE photos (after you upload your photo, two buttons appear: Thumbnail and Full Image, click Full Image and your photo appears full size on your post and are easily enlarged by clicking on it). Photograph coins on neutral backgrounds like black, grey, or white. Crop out superfluous background so just the coin shows (you can use https://www.remove.bg for free), and post photos with correct orientation so members don't have to turn their computer in some awkward fashion to view it properly. While it isn’t always necessary, it is nice to show both the obverse and reverse, even if your question is just about one side. Members can often give more valuable information having both sides to evaluate. Add close ups of areas you have questions about and make your questions as definitive as possible so we know what you are asking for. And try to have the best lighting possible to show the most favorable photo of the coin. Hope this helps in the future. Good luck.
Very cool coin I guess? But if you're wondering what it's worth in that state, as it has a decent amount of detail left on it, I'd guess probably a $20ish dollar coin with the "Scratches" on the obverse... If those scratches weren't there it would of been more like a $35 - 40 dollar coin in that condition
Here are my poor photos of the same coin; I got it for $10 at a coin show, Dayton, 1971. I am still working on the photography.
