This note is a FR 1308 25 cent Walker Fractional. These note's were printed starting in July 1874 thru April 1876, however the 10 cent note was released 3 months early in April, 1874. They were released in 3 denominations, 10cent, 25 cent and 50 cent notes. The US Mint had already started a gradual release of "specie" (metalic coinage) in the years since the Civil War and coins became readily available again in 1874. The 5th Issue notes were really anticlimatic and high grade examples are readialy available. With the water staining on the reverse on the upper right, I would pass on this example and go for a nicer, cleaner long key 1308 in CHCU 63 or higher. While staining is considered a minor detraction, many collectors of this Issue will opt for much higher grades for just a tad more $$. I estimate that this note would go for $35-45$ and go XF to AU at most. with the staining. High Grade CHCU to Gems run anywhere from $135 to $200 depending on variables. You can view my collection of 4th and 5th Issue Fractionas by using the link below. They will be on the last few pages of the site. Both examples of the long and short key are PGM CHCU64 Good luck!
