Just started getting interested in these, looking for a decent one to pick up. Saw this for $24. Price seems a little low. Some odd burnishing type marks across the fields. Thoughts?
Wow, Man that is low . i have a 1866 in same grade . Paid $30 .It appears to be an open 3 also .I also believe that its been cleaned . I would pass . Buy graded . jmo .
I'll keep looking as the scratches are a bit much. Might be good for a pocket carry though. Thanks for the feedback guys!
I am a three cent nickel aficionado. 1873 is a date with two varieties. An open 3 and a closed 3. This one is an open 3. And yes, three cent nickels can be had at reasonable prices. One of the reasons I like the series! That one has been scrubbed harshly though but I would say it is priced fairly for the abuse it withstood. Not a bad looking coin.
This two piece set is $35. The 1866 looks decent, and anything 1865 is a favorite for me! Seems like a fair price?
1865 is the first year these were struck. They are also the most plentiful. Really it is hard to argue with any 19th century coin that is under $20.00.... I would give maybe $12.00 for the 1865 and maybe $18.00-$20.00 for the 1866. Yes, that is a fair number.
Agreed. The description states VG for the '65 and VF for the '66. They each look one grade lower to me, but I'm no grader.
I had worked for a couple years on a three cent nickel book and had about a half dozen odds and ends dates left over that I wanted to send you. Seems I already gave them away to some young collectors here on the forum. I am not a coin seller but I do enjoy gifting some from time to time.
That's awesome! I give away coins pretty regularly to family and friends whenever I see them show interest in something particular. Got a few numis started that way!
That's a good estate plan in my opinion, at least for the ones you can let go of for now. If you can find people who you think can appreciate them, it's the best home you can make for them.
