From the brief pic of the slab, it's not NGC, PCGS, ANACS or ICG, so it would be interesting to know where it was graded.
"Details" grades are reserved for coins with overt problems that are more severe than market acceptable problems. As for the 1976 quarter, the market does not readily accept ANACS certified coins so it would not be worth anywhere near as much as a similarly graded PCGS coin.
completely disagree, anacs has been in service longer than pcgs. so i dont understand where you get that ideology from
How long have you been active in the market? It doesn't matter if the name of ANACS has been around longer than PCGS or NGC or whomever else, what matters is their market penetration, acceptance and reputation. In those aspects, ANACS is far and away viewed as inferior to PCGS and NGC. Regardless, the old ANACS was sold in 1990 or thereabouts from the ANA to Krause Publications, if I recall correctly, and was changed. It was later sold or completely retooled again when it traded management, graders and staff with ICG around 2005. It may have undergone other revisions, too.
Even if you don't want to accept Tom B at his word (you should since he is a very respected member here AND dealer), you can just look for yourself. There hundreds of thousands of auctions records for ANACS, NGC, PCGS publicly available. ANACS consistently brings 1/2 that NGC and PCGS bring for coins of the same Type and grade. What Tom said can be proven as a fact, and not an opinion or an "ideology". See here, pick any series you want and compare completed auction prices.
im not on here to argue about who grades better or push a service, i am on here to talk about coins. if you don't like that i use anacs just kick me outta here and ill move on.
I'm not sure why you included the link, perhaps you care to explain? I'm also not here to argue or specifically push a service, but I am happy to help folks learn. Do as you like, whether it is here or somewhere else.
not directed in comment towards you tom but to the opinion of another, i know that they are a reputable dealer as much as the other top 5 and care not for a single dealer in grade but know they are bonifide. yes!!!! he's bonifide
If you're here to talk about coins you'll fit right in. There are plenty of people here who buy and submit to ANACS too. A lot of other members here think people who collect coins in holders are silly, so there are raw-only people here as well. For slabs guys, some people like PCGS more than NGC, and vice-versa. Then there are people that think CAC stickers are a joke, and then there are people like me who love CAC. My point is, there are tons of varying opinions and ways to collect. You asked for some explanation and a few people responded. You don't need to accept their help or opinions or facts. But you will learn a lot of you listen to people, and not assume all contrary advice has an agenda to push.
I love coins and finding them, I slabbed these for down the road. my penny collection is in a book where i can take them out and look at them, the real purpose for a poor man like me is to sale them later and make money to buy for my penny collection, if i had gotten a 70 on my quarter i could have sold it and used the money for my other collection. thats all i came on here to talk about, yup about it.
The 73 is pretty sweet. On a side note, I don't really like slabs so I only collect ANACS photo grade. You old school guys know what I'm talking about.
What did the final grade of that 1873 come in as, I think ANACS usually lists the problem(s). For example "Details - cleaned" Here is some more info for your original question in the first post: - http://www.anacs.com/contentPages/FAQMain.aspx The barcode digits can also tell you the problem for your coin, if any: http://www.anacs.com/contentPages/BarCode.aspx Hope this helps, Matt
