I was digging through some some German coins/notes that were passed on to me from my grandparents and came across this. One thing i noticed was Pfennig was spelled Pfenning. After attempting to research this coin online i couldn't find any examples like it and was wondering if any German coin collectors had any info or could shed some light on it. Thanks!

It is German States, Bavaria KM #471 I don`t know why the spelling of Pfennig and Pfenning is different but it is common, under the listing in Krause it is spelt Pfennig.

In some pre-German countries (like Prussia and Bavaria), coins had similar but different names, as Pfennig, Pfenning, Penning, Pending, Pfanding and Penny. This was for better handling due to different currencies.

I had to find out to satisfy myself, LOL

As you wrote, this coin was not issued by Germany but by Bavaria (before Germany became one country). And apparently the name of that denomination was "Pfenning" in Bavaria. Similarly, some countries in what then became Germany used a plural-E ("Pfennige") while the later, standardized, spelling was "Pfennig" for both the singular and plural ...
