The silver trimes are a little outside my main collecting interest. But i was always attracted by their design and unusual denomination. Here is my example. What do you guys think? Thanks! Eduard
Where'd my message go? Anyway, as I was saying... That's an awesome, very original-looking silver 3-cent piece. You didn't ask, but I'd grade it AU. Very, very nice.
Nice coin for your first and only trime. A while back, I had to have one also. I still have only one. Bruce
Beautiful coin! And very low mintage at that! This one would be worth certifying in my opinion, unless you want to put it in an album
I love it, simple, beautiful, toned, a little piece of history. I currently have 5 of them, one holed, for my holed collection, one with no date, and the rest in F to VF just because.
I have a couple of holed pieces. I got them in a lot of miscl. holed items. Hmmmm... About time to move those out, I think.
Thank you all very much for your comments. This one came from Stacks. It was brighter when i got it (possibly dipped), but it has toned down nicely after 18 year storage in an Eagle holder. I remember i originally was looking for an 1872, but could not find one. Heard later some guy was hoarding them and buying up all 1872's he came across. Am i correct in saying that the 3 cent series in general is not all that popular among collectors? for some reason i have that perception. Regards, eduard
Eduard, First off, I want to say that that is a nice Three Cent piece! You are correct! The Three Cent pieces just don't have the popularity of other Series of U.S. coinage. I have sold a lot of Three Cent pieces over the years and most of the buyers would always state that they do not collect them but they have always wanted to own one. If you are familiar with the sayings here in the U.S. that size does or size does not matter, well in this case, "size does matter"! Due to small size of the coins, most folks pay very little if any attention to them when they are laid out on a Seller's table in plain view. Some people are not even aware that these are official U.S. coinage or that the U.S. even minted such a small coin in this denomination. Others pay them very little mind since if the person wears glasses, then they have to put their' glasses on to even make out the more significant details on the coins. Frank
Yes, I'm sure size is an issue with these. Same with 3cN, half dimes and gold dollars, and maybe others. I'm told the large size of Silver Dollars is one reason for their popularity. But once one appreciates them, their small size is a plus ! For lack of a better word, they're more endearing. I think 3cS are cool. And that's a nice one, Eduard. :thumb:
I have a three cent peice just like this, but not nearly as good of condition,There so tiny,No wonder we don't use them today.I can't see how you could not loose these if you used it as pocket change. But there very cool indeed.
