A new shot of one of my favorite MPD varieties: MPD-002 or Snow-8. I picked this one off eBay a while back. There are lots of misplaced digits in the denticles. :D This is a good one to look for--they're still out there...

Nice MPD and great image. I don't understand how they missed placing the date that far off. They must have gone out for drinks at lunch.

Thanks! And I count at least a dozen individual marks--just from this picture. It's been estimated the date may have been punched 4 times into the denticles--that's 16 digits! :D I consider MPDs in denticles or the bust as just too far off to be a deliberate dating of the die. It's thought they were testing the die hardness between hubbings, as the die must be annealed in a furnace between impressions to re-soften the steel. There's a large listing of different MPDs here.
