Thank you i have plenty of coins to learn more about i think this will be excellent to learn. with this coin the color seems just alittle off but im kinda new to collecting so i wasnt sure and the weight was 25.3g so i wasnt sure if that was in the ballpark for this coin
Only 13,462 were minted so it's a good coin to own, even in worn condition. Nice to plug a hole with. Despite being worn it looks clean. No scratches, dings or other damage. Not even on the rim. Also looks like a nice die crack from 10 to 11 o'clock on the obverse.
Maybe I'm in overly skeptical mode today, but what happened to the reverse denticles and the O in DOL.
It’s a poorly made Chinese counterfeit, not even made of silver. The toning, denticles, date, strike, and mintmark all look wrong. A real 1870-CC dollar is an expensive coin. Low grade damaged examples start in the several hundred dollar range and quickly go up from there, with mint state coins selling for five figures. These kinds of coins are very commonly counterfeited.
What @Evan8 and @Omegaraptor said. A blatant fake, most definitely "Made in China". Sticks out like a sore thumb. Sorry.
Here's the CoinFacts plate coin, by way of comparison. Note in particular the difference between the date numerals on the counterfeit in the original post and the coin below. The mintmark letters, too. (Not to mention the flattened denticles on the counterfeit.)
